A Henham Park Barns Wedding in the Heart of the Suffolk Countryside by Tamara Burgess
I was thrilled to be asked to conduct a Henham Park Barns wedding of P and R. This is a truly classy wedding destination set in the heart of the Suffolk countryside.
It is a stunning spot near the fantastic seaside town of Southwold, and you might also recognise it as the home of the wonderful Latitude Festival. My family drove to Latitude in our vintage campervan eight times over the years, starting with the second ever festival in 2007. We saw everyone from Tom Jones and Paolo Nutini to Seasick Steve, and we even witnessed Grace Jones in a silly hat hula-hooping whilst walking and singing. Now that takes some coordination.

Why Henham Park Barns Is Perfect for a Classy Suffolk Wedding
Outside of festival season, Henham Park Barns weddings have an entirely different energy. The barns are the backdrop for exquisitely elegant celebrations, beautifully stripped back and quietly sophisticated, just waiting for a couple to put their own stamp on them.
P and R were lucky enough to have the expertise of New Beginnings Florist in Bungay, who created a scene of restrained sophistication using:
- Pale blue hydrangeas
- Eucalyptus
- The palest blush pink lisianthus

The bridesmaids made full use of their posies, which were a perfect foil to their burgeoning baby bumps. Eight and a half months and counting. P stood between them looking like a delicate fairy. Scene stealing does not even come close. A few weeks after this gorgeous day, both bridesmaids welcomed their beautiful babies.
A Relaxed, Joyful Henham Park Barns Wedding Ceremony
We found a couple of large, comfy armchairs tucked away in a corner which looked suspiciously like thrones, and P and R were determined to lounge in them during the ceremony. They felt very grand and giggled a lot, which is always a good sign.

The wedding breakfast followed in an adjacent room and was, once again, a riot of simple elegance. Ice blue tablecloths, understated flowers, and a calm, welcoming atmosphere that encouraged people to relax and enjoy themselves.
The staff at Henham Park Barns could not have been more helpful or accommodating. The venue was P and R’s for the entire weekend, and there is gorgeous on-site accommodation available too, which is always a huge bonus. You can have a peek at their website here if you fancy whetting your appetite.
The Value of a Celebrant-Led Wedding Ceremony
We held a very informal rehearsal the evening before the wedding to calm the bride’s nerves. It did not actually work on her, but everyone else was wonderfully chilled.
One of the many reasons couples choose a celebrant to conduct their wedding ceremony is that we have already spent time getting to know them properly. We also have no other bookings on the day, which means we are at your side for as long as you need us.
P and R had decided against a registrar celebrant attending this licensed venue after attempting to book their marriage eighteen months before the wedding date. They were offered two time slots that simply would not have worked for them or their guests. They were also told that if the bride was more than ten minutes late, the registrar would leave and the marriage would not take place.

Sunshine, Nerves and a Very Late Bride
On the day of the wedding, everyone gathered early to enjoy the wonderful August sunshine. R had his bespoke sunnies on, which left no doubt whatsoever that he was the groom.

Johnny, the best man, was a bit of a wild card when it came to his speech later, but he stayed in constant contact with the bridesmaids throughout the morning. At one point, he came over to me and whispered,
“P has frozen and cannot get in the car. She is going to be late.”
That is alright, I replied. I will just wander around and get to know everyone.
Was she ever late.
Forty-five minutes later, P arrived at Henham Park Barns with her rather frazzled-looking dad. It had taken a couple of Jack Daniels to soothe the nerves, but she was there. And just like that, we were off.
